Introducing the Distinctively Designed Spin Table

The award-winning Spin stool is finally joined by a table, featuring the same simple expression and innovative design language as its predecessor.

“The table feels like a natural evolution of the stool; they enrich each other. It’s like seeing a family instead of a single piece,” says designer Staffan Holm.

Spin was created in Staffan Holm’s workshop in Mölnlycke’s old bobbin factory. In an attempt to challenge technical difficulties in furniture craftsmanship, he succeeded in creating a stool that appears to spin around itself.

“I worked as a furniture carpenter when I was younger, and I often heard, ‘No, you can’t do that; we tried it back in 1972.’ One of those things was bending wood in two directions.”

With the help of a glue gun and plywood molds, Staffan managed to bend the stool legs in two directions. At the Milan furniture fair, however, he was told it would never go into production. But it did, even though it required extensive work at Swedese’s factory.

“Spin may look quite straightforward now, but it was challenging“

“Spin may look quite straightforward now, but it was challenging. People were at the factory in their free time, trying to figure out how we could bend this stool leg.

After finally finding a way to relieve the pressure on the ash veneer, it became possible to bend the wood in two directions.

“It felt amazing when it finally worked! When we later developed the table, all that knowledge was already there, so it almost felt easy this time,” says Staffan, laughing.

Spin table is made of molded ash and comes in three different sizes and seven different finishes, ranging from dark red to moss green. It looks equally beautiful as a set of nesting tables or in solitary majesty.

“If you have a large sofa, you can combine three or four tables and stools or mix it with other tables. That’s what’s so great about Spin - it has a strong form, but it’s still a basic shape that pairs well with other styles.”

*Staffan Holm was born in 1977 and is a furniture carpenter and designer, educated at HDK/University of Gothenburg. In addition to the Spin stool, he also designed the versatile and striking Grace chair, which is found everywhere from restaurants to churches and the swedish government office.

Staffan has won numerous awards, including the Nordic Design Award in 2009, the Bruno Mathsson Award in 2013, and was named Designer of the Year by Residence Magazine in 2019. The Spin stool was named Furniture of the Year by Sköna hem in 2011, nominated for the Golden Chair Award in 2011, and nominated for the Swedish Design Award by Svensk Form in 2012. Grace was named Chair of the Year by swedish Elle Decoration in 2014. Staffan also has a bronze medal in the European Karate Championships on his CV.

The Spin lounge table is available in two sizes: a larger one at 85 cm with a height of 45 cm, and a smaller one at 55 cm with two different heights (38 cm and 52 cm). The tables come in English red, Moss green, Nutmeg, white-stained and black-stained finishes, as well as natural lacquered ash and white-pigmented lacquer.
