Luna is joined by a sideboard

In 2024, Swedese is launching the Luna sideboard, an addition to the stylish furniture family that also includes the home office favorite: the Luna desk.

The story of Luna actually begins with a completely different piece of furniture, the Stella armchair. The design duo Broberg & Ridderstråle, who created Stella, were tasked with designing a desk dedicated to the sleek chair.

The result was the Luna desk, a versatile piece of furniture for the home office, where rounded shapes meet smart functionality. Now comes the next member of the Luna family—a neat sideboard with the same soft design language.

– We wanted to translate the expression of the desk and transfer it to a sideboard. It should offer practical storage while also being a piece that enhances the beauty of a room," says Johan Ridderstråle.

The inspiration behind the neat furniture collection is, somewhat unexpectedly, a grand piano.

– A grand piano is certainly a large and bold piece, but it has beautiful flowing shapes. We wanted to create a desk and sideboard that stand out with rounded, soft forms but are still simple, expressive, and distinct, Johan explains.

Luna is made of molded oak and has slim metal legs. With the sweeping edge all around and the rounded drawer front, Luna is beautiful from every angle.

"The idea was to create a piece of furniture that doesn’t need to be pushed against a wall; it should be able to stand freely in a room and be equally beautiful from the front and the back"

– The idea was to create a piece of furniture that doesn’t need to be pushed against a wall; it should be able to stand freely in a room and be equally beautiful from the front and the back. This was something we emphasized heavily, and I believe we succeeded. It feels like Luna takes its place in the room and feels natural with its flowing shapes," says Mats Broberg.

The desk and sideboard are available in two color options: a light version with white-pigmented oak and legs in Nutmeg, RAL 1019, and a darker version with legs and wood parts painted in Hurricane Gray, RAL 7022.

Mats Broberg was born in 1974, and Johan Ridderstråle in 1979. They met during their studies at Konstfack in 2001 and have been a design duo ever since. Broberg & Ridderstråle are represented in the collections of Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and have received awards from the British magazine Wallpaper and Sweden’s Elle Interior. For Swedese, they have designed Divido, Kite, Stella, and Luna.
